Introducing - The Ocicat

            

The Ocicat breed offers a cat that is 'wild and exotic' in looks with a predictable temperament found in your most well-bred pedigreed domestic cats.

Feline enthusiasts have always been awed by the spotted cats of the wild - the leopards, the ocelots, the cheetahs and others. Now they can own an Ocicat which offers the spotted beauty, the sleek coat, the athletic build and the hypnotic gaze of the wild cats, whilst still maintaining the charming, affectionate and predictable disposition of the domestic pedigreed cat - the Ocicat - bred to look wild, but with no wild blood. 

This website provides information about the Ocicat as a breed, its temperament, its intelligence, its beauty. We also provide contact details for our Australian breeders as well as Ocicat kittens that are currently available.

The Ocicat in Australia

The Ocicat is still a rare cat breed in Australia.  Without the dedication of Ocicat Breeders of Australia, Ocicats would have remained unknown 'down under', or worse, become inbred and unhealthy.

As with all beautiful and valuable things, there are those who just want to jump in and 'make a quick dollar' and sadly, some of these people have managed to get hold of breeding Ocicats.  They do not have commitment to the future of the Ocicat breed, nor do they care about the quality of the kittens they breed.  Any fool can put two cats together and produce kittens.  The real test of a good breeder is in the way she selectively pairs her cats, raises her cats and kittens, and with an eye to the future of the breed, commits to the substantial outlay in time, effort and money to provide new breeding lines by importing from overseas.

Those people looking to adopt a beautiful,  healthy and well socialised Ocicat into their family should be very wary of those breeders who sell 'cheap' kittens - there is usually a very good reason for the  'cheap' or 'two for the price of one' strategy.  There's a world of difference between guaranteed top quality kittens from the dedicated breeder of experience and reputation and kittens from the 'fly-by-night' people struggling to find homes for their kittens.

regularly import Ocicat kittens into Australia to provide new blood lines for their breeding programs to ensure low inbreeding co-efficients.

continue to liaise with overseas Ocicat breeders with regard to all aspects of Ocicat health and breed standard information.
